Democracy and human rights

There are strong links between human rights and democracy. The two concepts are not identical and should not be confused, but it is obvious that a deep and sustainable democracy requires that human rights be respected. To respect human rights is crucial for the development of a democratic culture. The reverse relationship is equally obvious.
